Do you work as a teacher, researcher or within educational management? Are you interested in deepening your knowledge about digitalization and social responsibility from an international perspective?


The Jönköping University School of Education and Communication is offering two new master’s level courses in autumn 2019.  The academic context is the Communication, Culture and Diversity (CCD) network-based research group featuring JU's strategic investment project Learning, Digitalization and Media (LeaDMe).


The courses are aimed at individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in educational sciences, social sciences, or related fields, including students in master’s programs or currently working educational professionals.

Global Participation is Welcome
The courses are taught through synchronous and asynchronous lectures, seminars, and activities online.  Students in the Jönköping area may participate in face-to-face sessions in conjunction with digital participation. The language of instruction is English.

Courses

Academic Social Responsibility (ASR) – 7.5 Credits
This course prepares educational leaders, teachers, and researchers to address local and global challenges of equity and justice in daily professional work. How can you open dialog about controversial issues? How can you engage students, parents, policymakers, and the public in ways that make a meaningful difference? You will learn practical techniques and conceptual principles for how your institution and you as an individual educator can have an impact on society.

Course Contents
-Key concepts for talking about topics like integration, racism, migration, poverty, gender, multilingualism, and ecological sustainability
-Approaches to facilitating conversations about controversial social issues with diverse stakeholders, colleagues and groups at the workplace
-Engaging strategically with the public using genres such as those in social media, briefs/white papers, roleplay, infographics, blogs, video, among others
-Real-life visits and tests. The student engages with practices at the workplace

Digitalization and Implementation Processes in School I (DIP I) – 7.5 Credits
This course prepares educational leaders, teachers, and researchers to make informed decisions and take well-balanced actions regarding the digitalization of education. Digitalization of educational settings is a burning question worldwide. Despite global divides, schools in many countries have a relatively long history of using digital devices. The course will explore the role and functions of digital tools, and how these are implemented in every day teaching and learning. In addition to a comparison of national and regional regulations and goals, usage of digital resources at the local level will be explored.

Course Contents
-Digitalization processes in school at a macro level. Policy and legislative issues
-Digitalization processes in school at a meso level. Motives and arguments for digitalization
-Digitalization processes in school at a micro level. Communication and learning inside and outside the classroom
-Leadership and teacher education issues
-The digital and media landscape on the market and in school

Note: An optional follow-up course, DIP II, will be given in spring 2020.  DIP II is practice-based and involves applying knowledge and skills from DIP I in an educational/workplace setting.

Fees
Registration is free for students who are citizens of an EU/EEA/Nordic country or Switzerland.  Students from other countries pay a registration fee of approximately 1,200 Euro per course (application fees may also apply).  Exact registration fees are calculated following acceptance.
