Subject: reminder: CLA in Europe- Mon 7/28 1pm ET (17:00 GMT)
Hello all,
Thank you for RSVPing for the CLA Salon this Monday, July 28th, on CLA in Europe.
A reminder that this Salon is at 1pm ET (10am PT- and 17:00 GMT for folks abroad).
We’ll be talking with Erika Darics, a researcher, teacher, podcaster<https://wordsandactions12342078.wordpress.com/> (and more!) at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Dr. Darics is spearheading an EU-funded project called CLADES<https://www.solidar.org/project/clades-critical-language-awareness-democratic-engagement-sustainability/> (rhymes with “glades”), which stands for “Critical Language Awareness for Democratic Engagement and Sustainability.” Universities in five different countries are involved with this three-year project, which is working to produce materials for integrating CLA across higher education curricula. There’s a vision for doing the same within primary and secondary grades in future projects. This is HUGE—and it’s building on the CLA work that folks like Hilary Janks (now a CLA Collective member, to my great delight!) have been doing since the 1990s ❤
I am so excited that Erika is available to talk with us about this project and about her other work, which includes a huge grant she just received to integrate CLA into Business School curricula across the Netherlands. (When does this woman sleep? I don’t know- maybe I’ll ask her during the Salon 😝)
