Dear Joana,
     Well, one possibility, especially for some of the smaller
languages SIL hasn't researched lately, is to go back to the
sources Ethnologue itself relied on -- many of these are dated
to early 80's, 70's, etc. and further back. Some are regional
compilations, but most are fairly extensive in their scope, and
I think would be useful for your project. You can find these
sources just by sampling individual languages in the Ethnologue
database (e.g. for eastern Indonesia, almost all their data comes
from Wurm and Hattori 1981).
