interrupting a trial to collect data

I'm working with some students to construct an experiment that flashes a
sequence of 4 pictures, repeatedly until 30 seconds pass.  We would like to be
able to interrupt that sequence if the space bar is hit at any time, indicating
the subject has recognized change.

1.  How can the sequence be interrupted while collecting a RT?

2.  Once the sequence is interrupted, how do you set the program to
automatically proceed to the next trial?
