Subject: An introduction to evidence-based design - an eight minute video

Dear Fellows and Associates,

The Policy Lab is now working in close collaboration with UNIDIR, the UN Development Programme and the UN's Inter-Agency Working on Group on Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration in order to advance one of their "strategic priority areas" of "evidence-based programming.

UNIDIR, in collaboration with The Policy Lab, has the lead on conceptual development and building tools to facilitate the integration of "evidence-based design" in field operations on peace, security and development. Our work has been supported by the Dutch MFA and the Norwegian MFA. On the matter of designing tools to facilitate EBD, we are working closely with the service design firm live|work. Lavrans Løvlie — an associate of the Lab — is a founding partner of that firm.

The Lab will be scaling up from the specific theme of reintegration into the wider matter of EBD more generally for public policy and organizational change processes. Our goal, as always, is improved strategic engagement.

Attached is a link to an eight-minute video we produced to introduce EBD.

https://vimeo.com/53924981

Attached is also our framework document that was recently featured on the International Security Network in Zurich — one of the most important sites on international security matters.

New opportunities are on the horizon. Please do contact me if this video or paper "rings any bells" and suggests possibilities for cooperation. We have rough seas ahead but finally have a tailwind …

All best wishes,

Derek
