AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN'S LANGUAGE CONFERENCE
7-8 March 2008
Holiday Inn Riverwalk, San Antonio, TX
The African American Women's Language Conference will enable:
- Scholars to gain a broader, more interdisciplinary understanding of
language use in the African American community by women as well as the ever
more needed educational, sociocultural, and ecological aspects of AAWL.
- Scholars of language variation in American English and scholars in
language variation in the Americas to look at African American Language
(AAL) and AAWL more globally in order to understand the dynamic and still
uncertain relationship between them and other varieties of language in the
Americas.
- Members of the academic community and the general public who attend the
conference to understand the importance of Black women's language use in
not only the African American community but also other communities of
language variation based on demographic and historical differences.
- Linguists and scholars in general to find ways to better disseminate
scholarship on AAWL to the public.
