Tthe following call for papers and related short courses on language and 
gender and sociolinguistics may be of interest. (Full disclosure: I'm one 
of the speakers, along with Susan Herring, Scott Kiesling, and others.)

Language and Gender
Call for Papers

The intersection of language and gender has been a topic of increasingly 
diverse and innovative research over the last few decades. In preparation 
for Indiana University's SociolingFest workshop in June 2008 dedicated to 
this very topic, the IU Linguistics Club invites submissions to a Working 
Papers volume on any topic dealing with language and gender in any language 
community. Full papers are preferred, though we will also accept a limited 
number of squibs or short notes. Possible topics include but are not 
limited to:

Variation and change
Attitudes towards language and gender
Sexism in language
Morphological encoding of gender
Cross-cultural studies
Methodologies for the study of language and gender
Ethnographic approaches to language and gender
Gender and language in the media and folklore
Gender in language birth, death and revitalization
Effects of gender and sex on language acquisition and processing
Gender in second language acquisition
Gendered assertiveness
Language and sexuality
Language and gender identity

One-page abstracts of papers and half-page abstract for squibs should be 
submitted by January 21, 2008, to Traci Nagle (tcnagle at indiana.edu). 
Accepted papers will be due on February 18, 2008.
