The Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies program at Bowdoin College
announces a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the
field of global feminism broadly defined. We seek a social scientist
working at the intersections of gender, race, and social justice whose
research is located outside of Europe and the Americas or who incorporates
transnational or diasporic approaches to these regions. We especially
invite applications from those who can contribute to both gender and
sexuality aspects of the curriculum or who can address student interests in
either social movements, law, medicine, or science in society. We expect
the successful candidate to have prior interdisciplinary graduate training
and teaching experience in gender, women’s, and sexuality studies, although
we also welcome applications from candidates in traditional disciplines in
the social sciences.

We welcome applications from candidates committed to the instruction and
support of a diverse student population and those who will enrich and
contribute to the College’s ethnic and cultural diversity. We value a
community in which students of all backgrounds are warmly welcomed and
encouraged to succeed. In your application materials, we ask that you
address how your teaching, scholarship, and/or mentorship may support our
commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Bowdoin values a strong commitment to research and a promise of long-term
successful scholarly engagement as well as a dedication to teaching
excellence in a liberal arts environment. To support that, the College
offers internal funding in support of research and teaching, opportunities
for professional development, a junior sabbatical leave, and a post-tenure
leave. The teaching load is two courses per semester and includes courses
in the candidate’s area of specialization, feminist or queer theory, and
courses in our program’s core curriculum. Ph.D. required at the time of
appointment. We recognize that recruiting and retaining faculty may involve
considerations of spouses and partners. To that end, where possible, the
College will attempt to accommodate and respond creatively to the needs of
partners and spouses of members of the faculty.

Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions. Please visit
https://careers.bowdoin.edu to submit 1) a cover letter that details your
scholarly research agenda and describes your teaching experience and
interests; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) evidence of teaching effectiveness;
and 4) the names and contact information for three references who have
agreed to provide letters of recommendation.

Review of applications will begin October 27, 2017.
