I have a copy and it does cover the Goths, mainly from 378 to the end
of the Italian Ostrogothic kingdom. Those who are more learned in
Germanic historical studies than I am say it should be used with
caution, since it's quite a slim volume, with heavy emphasis on the
illustrations. I think it is more simplistic in places than outright
wrong - it's hard to go into detail in a book which is only 64 pages
long.

Angus McBride's colour plates in the middle, which reconstruct
historical scenes using archaeological information are very vivid and
probably worth the price of purchase on their own. There's one of
Ostrogothic cavalry charging the Visigothic infantry on the right
wing
of Aetius' allied army at Chalons in 451 AD and a nice one of the
Ostrogothic champion Valaris issuing a challenge to single combat in
front of a Gothic army. Another plate shows a Visigothic warrior of
the fifth century with details of some equipment, weapons and
accessories of the time.

Worth owning, but mainly to be used as a general guide, for directions
in further reading and for the illustrations of artefacts and weapons.
And for the pretty colour plates.
