Andreas,

Thank you for your latest mail on the First Gothic War.
According to Professor Hermodsson the Goths
reached the countries north of the Black Sea in the
beginning of the 3rd century AD. But due to your
notes I have made the changes underneath in
my text. As you see I have for numbering purposes
retained this as the first Gothic war.

Gothically

Bertil

First Gothic War 213-214 AD

This war may have involved Getae, but we do not
know exactly. The opponents could also have
beeb Goths.

Emperor Caracalla defeated his opponents (Getai
or Goti), who were allied to the Chatti, the Alamans,
the Marcomans and the Quadi. But Caracalla has to
conclude a swift peace because of other incursions
into the Roman empire. King Ostrogota (who is
mentioned by Jordanes, but is not historically
confirmed) most likely conquered the northern part of
Dacia, which was then finally abandoned
by Rome.
