Hi Keth,
A few days ago you told, that Heruls in Greek has an apostroph before
Eruloi, making it Heruloi like Latin and German. Therefore you
argued, that there should be an "H" in runes (and ON) too.
Now you mention an apostroph before the name of the Herulian king
Alarixos making it Halaricus in Getica. But in Ynglingatal we have
this name too being spelled Alrik without an "H" and two weeks ago I
saw the Sparloesa runestone from around 800AD,
where "alrik"/"alariku" probably is the same name as
Greek "'Alarixos".

Maybe this is a simplification, but why should the "H" problem then
prevent runic "erilaR" to be the same name as Greek "'Eruloi"?

many, he was not satisfied before he had struck down a large part of
the Herulic nation, that Halaric governed, and put the remaining ones
under his rule. According to the historian Ablabius this nation lives
near Maeotis marshes in swampy areas, which the Greeks call "hele"
and for this reason the nation is called Heruls. It is a quick nation
and therefore all the more high strung.
