Indeed, I just re-read the paper. And that was basically my question, if his works
are influenced by the times in which it was written to such an extent that they should
not be considered readable. It seems as if they are not though, although the
documentary in question said smth like there are frequent national socialist
sympathies detectable in the book.

Well, judging from evidence presented, he was a nazi, but that was not smth uncommon.
The question about his political orientation is rather irrelevant if it doesn't affect his works.
The documentary had some interesting footage and interviews but apart from that I think it was useless.
