By the time the Goths entered western Europe for the last major time,
what was they?

They spoke a Germanic language. But where their genetically Germanic,
likely not. Culturally likely not as well were the Germanic, they seem
ed to have adopted many customs of the east, namely those of steppe
cultures.

Question is, what evidence is there in their language for contact with
other nations to the east. What evidence is there for any past in the
area of the Vistula and contact with other cultures there?
What evidence genetically is there for any contact they may have had
with the far east and the mummies and like.

Has anyone done any comparisions of the genetics of the mummies with
modern europeans, as well as with known Goth burial sites.

Evidence has shown that some Europeans came to the new world some
several thousands of years ago. Atleast into NE Americas (or the
reverse being my theory). Much the same can be done for the mummies
and like.
