Good point. I really can't say. It may be a spelling whim. Or maybe,  
in the case of _-rich_ he was influenced by Langobardian names ?
BTW, the addition about the different forms in Gothic vs. other  
Germanic dialects was in no way meant as a correction, but rather as  
a small addition.
