You are simply talking about the Balkan Goths. The Visigothic king Alaric came from such a family and also Teoderik was brought up as a giesl in Constantinople. Already when the Huns attacked in 375 the ruling king of the Ostrogoths was forced to flee to Roman soil with his bodyguard after his uncle made a coup and took the kingship as petty king under the Huns. Since then there were two competing Ostrogothic dynasties.
