 A short addendum:
 

 I overlooked Dirk's postscript on toponyms. The Gothic Biblical translator simply borrows place-names from his source: thus, Iaireiko ('Jericho'), Iairusalem ('Jerusalem'), Gaulgautha ('Golgotha') with minimum alteration, that is, with merely orthographic changes. This would seem to be a more faithful way of filling lacunae where possible. One might then use 'Gairmanja' for 'Germany' (after Latin 'Germania'), 'Anataulja' for Turkey (after 'Anatolia'), terms that almost certainly would have had meaning to a fourth-century Goth with some knowledge of foreign places.
