Description
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of
Massachusetts Boston is seeking an assistant professor in Teacher Research
and Literacy/ELL Education. This position is a tenure track appointment to
begin in fall, 2004. This position in Teacher Research and Literacy/ELL
Education will be in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the
Graduate College of Education. We seek candidates who can contribute to
innovative teaching, research, service, and program development with the
Teacher Education and Critical and Creative Thinking graduate programs,
particularly in the areas of Teacher Research, reflective action research,
literacy development, and culturally responsive instruction with English
Language Learners at the middle/secondary level. The Graduate College of
Education is NCATE accredited. Responsibilities will include graduate
teaching; engagement in an active research program; participation in
democratic governance of the program; service at the college, university,
and professional levels. Qualifications: Ed.D. or Ph.D. in a related field,
evidence of an active research agenda, and substantial K-12
classroom/school-based experience is expected. Higher education experience
in urban public institutions is desirable. Candidates with bilingual
expertise and/or interdisciplinary ethnic studies training with relevance
for middle/secondary school context are especially encouraged to apply.
