Description
The Department of Leadership in Education seeks an assistant professor in
school leadership to teach research methods and other courses in the
doctoral program in Leadership in Urban Schools (LIUS). The Educational
Leadership Department is composed of the LIUS Program, a companion doctoral
track in Higher Education Administration, and the M.Ed./CAGS/Certification
Program in K-12 Educational Administration. The LIUS Program provides
mid-career, working professionals - teachers, administrators, and others
committed to transforming urban schools - with opportunities to develop
knowledge, skills, and practices in pursuit of that commitment. Graduates
are viewed as change agents who understand how organizations are rooted in
social, cultural, political, economic, and historical contexts and are able
to create viable projects through research, field experiences, and action
plans for change. LIUS is an eight-year old Ed.D. program with approximately
60 students in annual cohorts of 10-12. While attending, students continue
to work full time as teachers, administrators, counselors, and other types
of educational leaders. Courses are offered in the evening, on Saturdays,
and in a three-week institute in July. The curriculum concentrates on three
strands: leadership, research skills, and multicultural approaches to the
urban context. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both quantitative
research and mixed methods (e.g., survey design, case study, program
evaluation, and/or secondary data analysis). The candidate will be able to
teach successfully a two-semester Research Methods survey course, to advise
a range of dissertation methodologies, and to function as part of a faculty
team responsible for the programs curriculum development, advising, and
long-term planning. Expertise in complementary areas such as leadership,
policy, or urban issues and experience in K-12 urban education is preferred.
Responsibilities will include graduate teaching of two courses per semester;
dissertation advising; engagement in an active research/publishing program;
and participation in democratic governance of the program and service at the
college, university, and professional levels.
