Yorke Peninsula schools revive lost language

AN Aboriginal language on the verge of disappearing has been revived with
the help of several Yorke Peninsula schools.
Teachers and senior secondary students from Kadina, Moonta, Maitland and
Stansbury have been taking part in workshops run by the Narungga Aboriginal
Progress Association.
The association, with the help of a community linguist, has been able to
increase the number of known Narungga words from about 200 to more than
1000.
They have also developed a Narungga dictionary, grammar book and series of
storybooks for teachers and students to learn the language.
