Thanks for the comment.
I shy away from folk etymologies, recognizing in them the expression of desires
and wishes, rather than objective understanding. But, as Richard Nixon said,
just because one is paranoid does not mean that someone is not out to get him.
Folk etymologies sometimes have a core of truth to them.
The strength of the verb, and its prominence, led me to my thoughts.
