i would like to add to the list of references:
Halford, G.,  Maybery, M., O'Hare, A. & Grant, P. (1994). The development
of memory and processing capacity. Child Development, 65, 1338-1356.
The authors summarize by stating " Short-term memory span (does) not
provide clear indications of overall working memory development, because
short-term memory span and the processing space component of working
memory entail distinct systems."
