I've found that Microsoft products including word work with this website. I type in what I want and then just cut and paste into Word or PowerPoint.

phonetic symbols in Word For Mac 2011 [2 Updates]
phonetic symbols in Word For Mac 2011

Dear Info-CHILDES,
Neither Apple nor Microsoft have been able to help me with a problem I have
with phonetic fonts. I have an old PC that I have had since 2009, and a new
Mac. The PC has Office 2007 running Word 2007, and the MacBook Pro has
Office For Mac 2011.
The difficulty I have is with the Mac. In Word For Mac 2011 there is no
provision to insert DoulosSIL fonts from a dropdown menu like the one in
Word 2007. I have downloaded the DoulosSIL font family, and they work
perfectly on the Mac (e.g., if I open a document created on the PC).
Have you encountered this problem, and do you have any idea how to configure
Word For Mac 2011 to do the Insert > Symbol manoeuvre with the phonetic
fonts, including diacritics?
Alternatively, how do you make Word For Mac 2011 "do" phonetics?
Best wishes,
Caroline

Dear Caroline,
I am not sure whether you can 'fix' Word, as my experience with it is limited. However, I offer two nice solutions below which you may want to explore:
1) Brian Hall's IPA Palette, a nice (free) IPA input utility, available through CHILDES and described at the following address:
http://childes.psy.cmu.edu/tools/unimac.html
2) PopChar, an excellent (paid) application to insert symbols from any of the fonts installed on your system, whichever the application you are using:

I hope you find (some of) this useful.
With best regards,
Yvan
