    Florida Atlantic University, a comprehensive university
of over 20,000 students and a member of the State University
System of Florida, invites applications for the position
of chair of the Department of Languages and Linguistics.
This is a tenured, twelve-month appointment effective July
1, 2000. Candidates should be qualified for tenure as
professor.

    Salary is competitive and commensurate with
qualifications and experience. This position is contingent
upon budget feasibility.

    The Department offers the M.A. in French, German,
Linguistics, Spanish, and Comparative Literature; the B.A.
in French, German, Spanish, Linguistics and Italian. In
addition to its own programs, the Department participates in
interdisciplinary programs in Latin American Studies,
Women's Studies, Ethnic Studies, Film Studies and the Ph.D.
in Comparative Studies. All programs are linked to the
department's state-of-the-art foreign language media center.

    This position requires an earned doctorate in one of the
fields included in the department's programs; a significant
publication record; extensive teaching experience; and
administrative experience as chair or equivalent.
