                       Presentation
    The Universidad de Barcelona, with the collaboration of
the Universidad de Granada, is organizing its fourth
International Conference on Languages for Specific Purposes
(IV CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL SOBRE LENGUAS PARA FINES
ESPECÍFICOS) to be held  7, 8, 9 September 2000.

    The conference will serve as a forum where applied
linguists and practitioners of LSP / ESP / EAP can meet,
share experiences, discuss common problems and present
their latest research in the field. The conference also
wishes to create awareness among university authorities
of the growing interest in this new and challenging area of
linguistic expertise.

    This year's conference will address two basic areas of
interest: the broad field of LSP/LAP in which papers in any
of the main European languages are welcome, and the
specific field of Spanish as a second language. This
year we are featuring a one-day workshop entitled "Español
para los Negocios".

Some of our key speakers for this year are:

· Andreu van Hooft (Nijmegen University, NL)
· Blanca Aguirre (SEGEL, Madrid)

              ABSTRACTS AND PRESENTATIONS
    All those interested in presenting papers or workshops
should send in a 200-word abstract (in the language the
presentation will be given in) via e-mail before the 30th
of April. Presentations will not be included in the final
program if conference fees have not been paid.

    Please specify the area of interest: syllabus design,
materials, resources,assessment, methodology, research
project, etc.

    Presentations will be read and should not be longer
than 2500 words (20 minutes).

                           VENUE
    The IV International Congress on Languages for Specific
Purposes will be held, as in previous years, at the Escuela
Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica en Tejidos de Punto in
Canet de Mar (Barcelona, Spain).

    Canet is a small coastal town, located 25 miles north
of Barcelona (between Arenys de Mar and Sant Pol). The
Escuela Universitaria de Tejidos de Punto is located in the
center of the town, five minutes from the train station.

                      TRANSPORTATION
    There are direct trains every half hour from downtown
Barcelona (Plaza Cataluña and  Estación de Sants) and from
the airport. Those coming from the airport will have to
change trains  -using the same ticket- in Mataró.
Canet is the fourth stop after Mataró.
