The Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies is sponsoring the following
session at the 43rd International Congress on Medieval Studies:

-«Resources for Teaching the "History of the Spanish Language": A
Roundtable»

This roundtable discussion comes on the coattails of a very successful
roundtable session at the 42nd congress, in which five leading scholars
in the subject debated the current challenges of teaching the History
of the Spanish Language course, and evaluated the necessary elements
in a textbook for such course. Both the undergraduate and graduate
Spanish curricula at U.S. universities have experienced significant
changes in the past twenty years, which have brought into question the
place of Hispanic Philology and Historical Linguistics in a Spanish
degree. The HSMS seeks to enliven the debate about the place these two
disciplines have in the formation of future teachers and scholars.

For the 43rd congress the roundtable members will discuss the resources
to teach the “History of the Spanish Language” course, which include,
but are not limited to, primary sources from Indo-European to the
present, maps, and multi-media resources. The source, form, extension, language,
and quantity of these resources will be the focal point of the
discussion.

If you wish to participate in the discussion, please, provide a brief
curriculum vitae and key ideas for discussion in English or Spanish to
Francisco Gago-Jover at <fgagojov at holycross.edu> by Sept. 17, 2007.

All participants must also turn in an Abstract Cover Sheet which will
be available in pdf form at the Congress website:
http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/index.html
All materials must be received by September 17, 2007.
