To second Jane Simpson's point, many Carrier-speaking elders
in British Columbia, virtually all of whom speak English,
say that they do not understand treaty negotiations with
Canada and British Columbia and related issues when discussed
in English. They often ask to have such things explained to them
in their own language. I'm not sure, however, to what extent
it would be helpful to them to have the relevant terminology
defined in a dictionary - what they really want is an oral
explanation.
