John Roberts asked:
Does "-isch" in German always have negative connotations?
No, John. -isch can be positive, negative, or polysemous. Guess what?
Depending upon
context "teuflisch (= devilish)" can even be positive, when used as a
modifier "etwas ist teuflisch gut"
(something is devilish good, super, excellent).
Of course, 'himmlisch' (heavenly) is positive (Mozart's music is
himmlisch).
Malerisch (painter-ish) = picturesque.
Greetings,
Fritz
