Moldova: Education Minister Goes.

President Vladimir Voronin removed his education minister, Ilie Vancea,
whose plan to require schoolchildren to learn Russian brought thousands of
people to unruly street protests. The protesters said that the language
order--withdrawn in the face of the upheval--would erode cultural ties
with neighboring Romania and tug Moldova back into Moscow's orbit.
