a request: exciting books?

I've been asked to write an essay about exciting summer reading in
higher education.  I'd like to do something on the plight and promise of
non-native speakers in American universities if there is a really
worthwhile recent book that deals with this. Knowing that this is not
exactly the subject of this listserv, I am writing anyway, because I'm
sure some folks on it will have advice. I'd love to hear from you.
