Foreign languages seminar
UNIVERSITI Putra Malaysia (UPM) Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty
of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK) will be organising a foreign
language seminar entitled Foreign Languages: A Plus Factor in Human
Development This seminar will be held from 8am to 4.15pm on Aug 29 and
from 9am to 12.30pm on Aug 30 at the Conference Hall, Pusat Pendidikan
Luar, UPM.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Haji
Jarjis will launch the seminar. The seven speakers are Nor Zihan Hussin
from the Department of Foreign Languages UPM, David A. Jones (regional
director, Rolls Royces), Prof Dr Choy Kim Yok from University of Malaya,
Datuk Dr Noraesah Mohamad from Alcatel Network, Prof Madya Dr Shameem and
a representative from Uniten.
Among the topics that will be discussed are Current Issues, Prospects and
The Future Foreign Languages in Several Domains such as acquisition,
globalisation and ICT, Development of a Multilingual Nation,
Multilingualism and also Job Opportunities, The Importance of Foreign
Languages in Key Sectors in Malaysia and its Special Purposes. The seminar
is open to public and private sector executives, post-graduates, students,
academicians, foreign language policy makers and practitioners,
translators, interpreters, Human Resource Development consultants, media
representatives and foreign language enthusiasts.
The registration fee is RM120 per participant and student rate is RM60.
Meanwhile, the public also can register in a group with a minimum of three
for RM260.
