The Ethnic Studies Department at the University of California, San Diego,

interdisciplinary department devoted to the comparative, relational,
>and analytic study of race and ethnicity, invites applications for a
tenured position at the associate or full professor level.  We seek
a scholar of social theory whose work illuminates the impact of
globalization and transnationalism on ethnic and racial communities
in the United States and world-wide.  Applicants in any social
science or humanities discipline working on such broad comparative
topics are welcome, but preference will be given to those studying
language, discourse analysis, and/or the role of narrative in the
construction of difference, inequality and power. A superior record
of publication and research, teaching excellence, and public service
are required.

  Send detailed resume, sample publications of no more than 50 pages,

applications will begin on October 15, 2005, and continue until
filled, for a July 1, 2006 appointment. The level of appointment
will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Salary
