The Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong is currently
inviting applications for PhD/MPhil Studentships in Language Attitudes and
Practices in Tertiary Education for entry in 2006-07. Language and
Communication has been designated as one of the University constituent
themes for strategic research. As part of this strategy, the University
has allocated a number of PhD and/or MPhil places with full PGS Level 1
studentships (HK$12, 500 per month).

China Education Reform and Development
Computer-supported Collaborative Learning Discourse
Language Attitudes and Practices in Tertiary Education

The University of Hong Kong is at the international forefront of higher
learning and research, with more than 100 teaching departments and
sub-divisions of studies, and more than 60 research institutes and
centres. Current enrolment includes 10,000 undergraduates and 7,000
postgraduates from 48 countries. English is the medium of instruction. The
University is committed to international standards for excellence in
scholarship and research.

Language and Communication, Information Technology and China Studies have
all been designated as University constituent themes for strategic
research. As part of this strategy, the University has allocated a number
of PhD and/or MPhil places with full PGS Level 1 studentships for entry in
2006-07. The candidates will be co-supervised by staff in the Faculty of
Education and another relevant Faculty.  The successful applicants should
have a good honours degree or a relevant Master's degree; and a high
standard of English language proficiency. The candidates will work closely
with a team of university researchers and other higher degree students
doing similar studies in the designated area.

A studentship is HK$12,500 per month (7.8 HKD = I USD), with access to the
University facilities, health service, student counselling, physical
education and recreation facilities. Fees are HK$42,100 per year.
