Cabinet has not discussed the matter around an ultimatum by the
killers of Chris Hani, calling on President Thabo Mbeki to make a
decision on their application for a presidential pardon. Themba
Maseko, the government spokesperson, has briefed the media on this
morning's Cabinet meeting, which was held ahead of the three-day
Cabinet lekgotla.
Government has asked the public to comment on the future status and
regulation of foreign land ownership. The decision follows Cabinet's
approval of a report by a panel of experts to develop a policy on the
issue.
Cabinet also decided that Johannesburg will host the 2010 World Cup
International Broadcast Centre and a proposal for government
departments to establish language units with a view to implementing
the Language Policy Framework was also approved. The framework,
implemented in 2003, provides for all government documents to be
available in all 11 official languages.
