Meeting Description:

The Thirteenth International Conference on Methods in Dialectology
(Methods XIII), hosted jointly by the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield,
will take place in Leeds from 4 to 8 August 2008. Abstracts of papers,
suggestions for special sessions and workshops, and enquiries, are now
invited. Details are available from the conference website, at
www.leeds.ac.uk/english/methods.htm.

The special theme of the conference is 'Geolinguistics', and William Labov
and David Britain are to give keynote addresses in this area. Within and
beyond this theme, papers are invited on all subjects in the field of
dialectology, from variationist scholars working on any language or
language group.

Abstracts for papers are now invited on any topic in regional, social, and
historical language variation. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length,
followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Abstracts, of up to 300 words
excluding bibliography, should be submitted either by regular post to the
address given below or by e-mail as RTF (or ASCII text) files to:
engmethleeds.ac.uk. Please submit two separate sheets, one containing the
abstract and title for the paper, the other the title and contact details
of author(s).

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 October 2007. They will be
refereed anonymously by the Methods Steering Committee, and authors will
be notified of acceptance before the end of January 2008. In order to help
with conference funding, the Organising Committee requests that authors
send by 1 May 2007 a note of their intention to take part, with a
preliminary title of the paper that they propose to present.

Suggestions for special sessions or workshops are welcome and should be
submitted to the Organising Committee before the submission deadline, as
should an intention to display a poster.
