Meeting Description:

This four-day summer school is organised especially for PhD students in the
first years of their research. All participants will have a chance to take part
in hands-on workshops led by renowned academics, present their papers
and attend
round-table discussions. The programme includes four day-long sessions on the
following subjects:

Language and Identity
Dialectology (Phonetics/Phonology)
Language Variation (Syntax/Morphology)
Language Attitudes and Perceptions

This four-day summer school is organised especially for PhD students in the

Language and Identity (Professor Norma Mendoza-Denton, University of
Arizona, US)
Dialectology (Phonetics/Phonology) (Professor Paul Kerswill, University of
Lancaster, UK)
Language Variation (Syntax/Morphology) Professor James Walker, University of
York, Canada)
Language Attitudes and Perceptions (Professor Nancy Niedzielski, Rice
University, Houston, US)

All prospective student participants are asked to submit an abstract of a
presentation falling within one of the above areas (see call for papers).
There is no participation fee. However, student places will be limited, so we
will only be able to host students whose submissions are accepted. Selection of
student presentations will be on the basis of (i) their academic quality, (ii)
potential benefit of the workshop for the participant and (iii) fit with the
daily themes.

Outline for each day is as follows:

9:30 - 12:00 am : Workshop (with coffee break)

12:00 - 1:30 pm : Lunch

1:30 - 3:00 pm : Student Papers

3:00 - 3:20 pm : Coffee Break

3:20 - 4:45 pm : Round Table Discussion of Papers

5:00 - 6:30 pm : Plenary (one hour and questions)

7:00 pm : Dinner (own arrangements)
