“Bonjour India will give a French cultural experience for Indians”

Over 200 French artists to perform in events across 18 cities



CHENNAI: For the next three months, over 200 French artists will get
together in hundreds of events at 18 cities to celebrate the
Indo-French relationship and cooperation.
Bonjour India, organised jointly by the French Embassy and
Culturesfrance, is a celebration through a series of exhibitions,
concerts, literary meetings, film festivals, debates, food festivals
and educational exchanges. The events, spread across December 2009 to
February 2010, will be held in cities including Ahmedabad, Bangalore,
Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata,
Kochi, Mumbai, Nashik, Mysore, Pondicherry, Pune, Trivandrum and
Varanasi.

Organised in association with the Government of India and Alliance
Francaise, Bonjour India seeks to establish a platform for showcasing
various facets of Indian and French contemporary creation.  “Bonjour
will give a French cultural experience for Indians. It will also
facilitate dialogues between the two countries in various fields,”
said Jérôme Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India. Speaking to
presspersons on Wednesday, he said the event will strengthen the
Indo-France cooperation. Taking into account the cultural richness of
southern States, many of performance arts events will be held in
Chennai, he said. Following the event, the French Embassy will also
host Namaste France in various parts of France, which would showcase
Indian talents on French platform.

On science front, Bonjour India will bring together 30 leading French
scientists from public and private research institutions.
Littératures, a French literary festival, will witness readings and
interactions between French authors and their Indian counterparts. The
Reunion Island: Earth Offshore exhibition presents the work of several
Reunion Island artists. Street Art will have urban artists creating
their pictorial styles on posters. True Fiction, a retrospective
collection of Bernard Faucon’s works, will also be part of the event.
In association with the Cinémathèque française, the festival will also
showcase legendary films on the occasion of the 50 years of New Wave.
An exhibition by Maison Jean-François Lesage will be hosted in the
city.

Sacred Drummers from the Reunion Island, Awek, China Moses will come
up with a host of music performances. Mayyakam Oxymore will symbolise
the cultural melange of two countries.  The Giraffes – Compagnie OFF
is an extravagant street show which brings alive a mixture of opera,
