An International Indigenous Language PolicyResearch Conference
A Summer Institute for Native American language teachers will be held
on the campusof University of New Mexico offering three hours of
graduate and undergraduate coursecredit. Speakers of Native language
will have the opportunity to participate in hands-ondemonstrations of
language teaching in immersion settings, gain information fromlectures
and invited presenters about planning immersion language
initiatives,understanding key principles about language learning and
language teaching, and otherpertinent topics relative to Native
language initiatives in schools and communities. Native speakers,
Native language teachers, tribal language program planners

impact of national and local policies on the survival ofindigenous
languages throughout the Americas. A central aspect of our Center’s
mission isto facilitate an international dialogue about policy issues
that will foster a betterunderstanding of the unique issues
challenging Indigenous communities in themaintenance and survival of
their respective languages. Our goal is to explore thecommonalities
that will help build collaborative support and advocacy of
Indigenouslanguage maintenance efforts by bringing together scholars
and advocates representingdiverse language communities. Join us at the
