New regulations ban English words in Chinese publications

China's General Administration of Press and Publication issued new
regulations relating to the Chinese <http://china.globaltimes.cn/> language
Monday, including a ban on the use of English words or foreign language
acronyms in Chinese publications.

If the words must be written in a foreign language, an explanation in
Chinese is required.

The regulations also forbid such practices as the use of "vague words",
which are in fact neither Chinese nor foreign.

Regarding translations - the regulations require that conventional
translations are to be used, rather than just any creative translation.

In addition, names of foreign people and places and other proper nouns
should be translated into Chinese.
