Second Language Acquisition of Chinese



October 1-2, 2010



This first TCCRISLS provides a forum to address issues specifically
related to the acquisition of Chinese as a second language. To that
end, we welcome proposals in the following areas:

* Learners' processing of input

* Learners' output-based learning

* Learners' response to pedagogical intervention

* Learning across linguistic domains

* Characteristics of learner language and learners' developmental trajectories

* Learners' context of acquisition: classroom, naturalistic,
immersion, and study abroad

Foreigners overtaking Korean language grad courses



An increasing number of students, many of whom are Asian, are
enrolling in the Yonsei University's graduate course of Korean
language and literature. To meet the demand, Korea's oldest private
university has developed classes especially for these students.

Fiji to have national language



Talks have initiated on the need to have a national language in Fiji.

This was revealed by the Education Minister Filipe Bole in the
launching of three i-taukei books at the Holiday Inn in Suva this
morning.

Irish Central



Gaelic language becoming popular among Germans



German students make up the biggest number of overseas students
studying the Gaelic Irish language at a Scottish Gaelic college.

Sabhal M?r Ostaig, the Gaelic college in Skye, has more German
students learning the native tongue of Ireland than any other
non-Scottish group.

Language programs promote Chinese-Russian friendship



While tens of thousands of Chinese can sing the Russian song Katyusha,
thousands of Russian families regularly watch a Chinese teaching TV
program named "Hello, China."



The 2009 Russian Language Year organized in China the 2010 Chinese
Language Year in Russia are believed to have enhanced the interest of
the two peoples to learn each other's languages with their colorful
activities, such as speech competitions and TV programs.
