The inaugural conference on Language Policy and Language rights held
in Jamaica over a two day period between January 13 -14, 2011 saw
presentations and participation from the regions leading researchers
on language and linguistics among top government officials
representing their island territories.
The conference sought to bring together a group of Caribbean policy
makers, from across the Caribbean and with in the International center
on Caribbean Language Research (ICCLR) network. As a result a
programme of activities and applied research was presented on the
experiences and current language situation in each territory across
the Caribbean.
The Conference ended successfully with the finalization on the
charter, with each participant signing off on the core policies for
the implementation after the overview of government and civil society
groups.
