MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of the “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa”
in August, the Department of Education (DepEd) is lining up activities
that will draw maximum participation from students.

>>From August 8 to 14, the highlight is on the importance of the
national language in enforcing discipline that will lead to national
development. For this, the pledge of allegiance to the Philippine flag
will be dissected and put to heart.
“The schools are encouraged to stage plays and writing contests that
emphasize why discipline is important in achieving progress,” Luistro
said.

On August 15 to 21, the theme is the use of language as an instrument
to achieve freedom and justice. Schools are encouraged to conduct a
symposium on the history of the country’s struggle for freedom and the
holding of debate following the theme “Ang Kahalagahan ng Wika sa
Larangan ng Katarungan.”
