Armenian should develop language policy state program- Expert
YEREVAN, July 3. /ARKA/. Vice President of Armenian State Pedagogical
University Lavrenty Mirzoyan said Tuesday Armenia needs a state
program to manage a language policy.
“Founded in 1956 Terminology committee, which is now a part of State
Language Inspection at Ministry of Education and Science, is
controlling the language to be pure. However today it is not operating
fully what degrades its status,” he noted.
Mirzoyan highlighted that if years ago the staff of the committee was
made up of 96 specialists, now the number dropped to 16. “Obviously,
they can’t conduct linguistic policy on the whole territory of the
republic,” he said.
Thereby, Mirzoyan proposes to develop a state program for language
purity control thus raising the status of the Inspection as well as to
increase the fine for placing ad posters containing linguistic
mistakes from 50,000-200,000 drams to 500,000- 1,000,000 drams. ($1 –
418.34 drams).
