*BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TRACKS*

*Track One: Community-Based Native Language Program Planning*

This three-day workshop will address: different types of community-based
language immersion; getting communities involved in planning; training
instructors and mentors; assessing community’s language use and attitudes
about language immersion. There will be ample hands-on work and
practice. Recommended
for all levels of language teachers, language learners, mentors, parents,
tribal leaders and administrators.

*Track Two: Curriculum Development for Native Language Immersion*

This three-day workshop focuses on curriculum development for Native
language immersion programs. The workshop introduces Communication Based
Instruction (CBI) to develop curriculum and lesson plans for language
immersion programs. CBI is a language approach developed to produce
speakers of a language. This is a hands-on workshop where participants will
plan, design and develop lesson plans after each instructional period.
Participants will have opportunities to practice, critique and refine their
materials in simulated teaching sessions. Recommended for all levels of
language teachers in school settings and community language programs.
