The Summer 2012 issue of Language Problems and Language Planning (vol. 36)
contains five articles:
· Dave Sayers, Standardising Cornish: The politics of a new minority
language
· Mélanie Bernard-Béziade & Michaël Attali, Lévidence des
anglicismes dans les discours journalistiques français: Le cas du sport
· Eduardo D. Faingold, Official English in the constitutions and
statutes of the fifty states in the United States
· Antonio Medina-Rivera, Officialization and linguistic
acculturation of Spanish in the United States Catholic Church
· KIMURA Goro Christoph, Esperanto and minority languages: A
sociolinguistic comparison
Kimuras argument, based on his fieldwork in Cornwall and elsewhere, is that
movements for planned languages such as Esperanto bear striking similarity
to movements for language revival, a point perhaps illustrated indirectly by
Sayers article on the politics of Cornish. Bernard-Béziade and Attali
examine the lexical dominance of English in the terminology of sport.
Faingolds article is the latest in his series of reviews of language
provisions in national and state constitutions. Medina-Rivera covers new
ground in examining language policy in the US Catholic Church. In addition,
the issue contains five book reviews.
