Language Policy of the University of Innsbruck

Language proficiency is seen as an important internalisation
factor within the University of Innsbruck.
>>From this perspective the International Language Centre (isi)
was established primarily for student s and staff but also
for external participants interested in taking part in
top quality language and intercultural courses.More than 20 languages are
offered each semester, with a focus on European languages. Awareness
raising for cultural contexts is an
additional core element of the language tuition.

The development
and continuationof cooperation with partners in EU and non-EU
countries demands interaction be tween all parties be it in writing
or within personal discussions. On the basis of Bilateral Agreements or
Memoranda of Understanding students and staff will be exchanged and
therefore it is indispensable that the University of Innsbruck offers the
appropriate linguistic preparation to enable participation. The University
of Innsbruck
will support incoming mobility participants. Intensive courses in
German are offered during the summer months for non-native speakers. Each
semester courses are offered on all levels for the improvement of
knowledge. Intercultural exchange will be increased by the Study Buddy
Partnership Agency, organised
by the International Language Centre. This brings students of all languages
together and enables a cost-free experience in language learning as well as
support and integration.
