*Tech Dept, sign language policies to be center of CVUSD meeting*
CAMP VERDE -- It's not as dry as it sounds.
Technology and policies are on the Nov. 12 agenda for the Camp Verde
Unified School District Governing Board. The evening's consent agenda
brings up sign language.
Technology Director Aaron Moya and Superintendent Amber Lee will give an
update on progress in that department. That discussion may include
procedures for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), which has been part of the
conversation for a while as the district tries to move its technological
capabilities into the 21st century.
Moya and Lee will also lead the discussion on making board meetings
"paperless." That was proposed earlier, but the board could simply opt to
have their meeting packets paperless.
Various policy modifications from the Arizona School Boards Association are
presented for a first read. They range from school accident reports to
staff members smoking. From within, the board is also looking at changes to
sick leave policy regarding voluntary transfer of hours. There will also be
a first read of Policy EG on office services.
Up for decision is the new intergovernmental agreement with Yavapai
College<http://www2.yc.edu/> for
dual enrollment. The board will also decide on the time of the
superintendent's evaluation.
The consent agenda includes several personnel matters. That includes the
hiring of Katie McAndrew as a sign language specialist. At the same time,
the board is approving a job description for that position. The specialist
is under the Special Education teacher and teacher of the deaf.
Also being hired are Laura Cox, an aide for English Language Learners, and
Jessica Acock as middle school Special Education paraprofessional. Leaving
the district are bus driver Mathew Moreno and South Verde nursery aide
Raina Russell.
Being spotlighted by the board at the top of the meeting are South Verde
teacher Mary Lue Allen and the SVHS art students; and new music and choir
teacher Charity Worden, whose students will perform for the board.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the district library in the multi-use
complex, 280 Camp Lincoln Road.
