‘Confident of winning case on language policy’

   - Staff Reporter

On the day of the Karnataka Rajyotsava on Sunday, Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah said that he was confident of winning the case in the Supreme
Court where the State is seeking to make Kannada the medium of instruction
from classes 1 to 4. The apex court had held last year that the government
could not impose mother tongue for imparting primary education.

He was speaking after unfurling the State flag during the Rajyotsava
celebrations here. The Chief Minister also said that while the government
was not against English, it was necessary to remember that Kannada was the
language of the State. “I am confident we will win the case in the Supreme
Court. There are eminent people who have studied in Kannada medium,” he
said. Mr. Chief Minister also spoke out against TV programmes which were
promoting programmes on astrology.
