Two weeks after a new report from the federal auditor general revealed
that the government’s plan to pour billions of dollars into interim
measures to keep Canada’s aging fleet of fighter jets up and running during
the process of procuring permanent replacements may not be sufficient to
meet current and future international military commitments

*PUBLIC ACCOUNTS* members are ready to question the analysts behind the
findings.

According to the notice, the committee will also hear from senior defence
officials: *Deputy Minister Jody Thomas, Assistant Deputy Minister Patrick
Finn* and *Lt.-Gen. A. D. Meinzinger*, commander of the Royal Canadian Air
Force, who can all expect to be quizzed on their intended response to the
report, as well the program itself.

Over at *FOREIGN AFFAIRS*, MPs will be briefed on the human rights
situation in Venezuela by a panel of expert witnesses from the
International *Organization for Migration, the Organization of American
States* and the* Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees*, as well as former Liberal justice minister* Irwin Cotler*, the
founding chair of the *Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights. *

Also on the Commons committee circuit:

   - *INDUSTRY* hears from lawyers and legal experts specializing in
intellectual property, as MPs continue to explore the state of Canada’s
   copyright laws.
   - Representatives from Indigenous healing lodges across Canada offer
their shared and individual insights on emergency shelters and transition
support available to women and children affected by intimate partner
violence at *STATUS OF WOMEN. *

On the Senate side, *Official Languages Minister Mélanie Joly* fields
questions on the push to update Canada’s bilingualism laws at *OFFICIAL
LANGUAGES,* while over at *NATIONAL SECURITY*, senators are still going
through the fine print of the planned harmonization of cross-border
customs operations.
