Call for papers
(Abstract deadline: *Friday 9 March*)
For the third conference in the UKLPAB series, the theme will be ‘language,
economy, and development’. As always we welcome papers discussing any
aspect of post-Brexit language policy in the UK, but we are especially
interested in the effect of Brexit on the interface between language policy
(minority languages and foreign languages) and the economy.
- How are languages framed as contributing to the economy?
- How does language feature in policy debates over regional development?
- How is language commodified as a selling point for tourism and
services?
- How is proficiency in different languages flagged as a skill for
employment, both within the UK and abroad?
- What is the economic value of cultural resources focused on minority
languages like archives and museums?
Abstracts of 300 words maximum to be submitted using the form below.
https://sites.google.com/view/uklpab/2018
Non-presenting attendees are also welcome to attend.
We hope to keep this conference free for everyone, though we may have to
charge a small fee. We will update all registered attendees in due course.
Gairm airson Phàipearan
(Ceann-latha Ghearr-chunntasan: *DihAoine 9 Am Màrt*)
’S e ‘cànan, eaconomaidh, agus leasachadh’ cuspair an treas colabhairt san
t-sreath UKLPAB (UK Language Policy After Brexit / Poileasaidh Cànain anns
an Rìoghachd Aonaichte as dèidh Bhrexit). Mar is àbhaist, cuiridh sinn
fàilte air pàipearan a bheir sùil air rud sam bith ceangailte ri
poileasaidh cànain anns an Rìoghachd Aonaichte as dèidh Bhrexit, ach tha
ùidh shònraichte againn anns a’ bhuaidh a bhios aig Brexit air an dàimh
eadar poileasaidh cànain (mion-chànanan Bhreatainn agus cànanan a bhuineas
do dhùthchannan cèine) agus an eaconomaidh.
- Ciamar a thathar a’ tuigsinn buaidh chànanan air math an eaconomaidh?
- Ciamar a tha cànan a’ nochdadh ann an deasbadan poileasaidh ceangailte
ri leasachadh roinneil agus dùthchail?
- Dè an luach a thèid a chur air cànan ann am malairt (m.e. ann an
tursachd agus solarachadh sheirbhisean)?
- Dè an luach a thèid a chur air comasan ann an diofar chànanan mar sgil
a tha feumail sa mhargaidh-obrach, an dà chuid am Breatainn agus thall
thairis?
- Dè an luach eaconomach a thèid a chur air goireasan cultarach
ceangailte ri mion-chànanan, leithid thasglannan agus thaighean-tasgaidh?
Cleachdaibh am foirm aig bun na duilleige seo gus gearr-chunntasan suas ri
300 facal a chur a-steach.

Cuirear fàilte air freastalaichean nach eil a’ toirt seachad pàipear/a’
dèanamh taisbeanadh.
Thathas an dòchas gum bi a’ cholabhairt seo saor is an-asgaidh do gach
duine a bhios an làthair, ged is dòcha gum feum sinn cìs-chlàraidh bheag
iarraidh air freastalaichean. Thèid barrachd fiosrachadh a sgaoileadh ann
an ùine nach bi fada.
Thanks / Tapadh leibh,
Dave
