Members of the city Council overturned the decision of the last cadence,
which
gave the Russian language regional status. Voted for 33 of the 38
representatives. Did not vote 3 members of the faction “opposition bloc”
and one
independent MP.

Recall that the Law of Ukraine on fundamentals of state language policy was
adopted
at a cadence of fugitive ex-President Viktor Yanukovych. It
provided for the establishment of the official use of regional
languages in the work of local authorities. In Kherson Russian
language given this status on August 21, 2012. Then voted
47 deputies of the local Council. The regional Council took a similar
decision
a little earlier, on August 17. It should be noted that the language issue
has become
subject to provocations by the aggressor. An interesting fact is
what language other than Russian and other national minorities living on
regions have not received the regional status.

On 28 February this year the constitutional court of Ukraine by its decision
noted the action “language law”, declaring it unconstitutional.
Therefore, the decision of deputies of the city Council is a highly
technical and
formal. The plenary session of the Kherson city Council appointed
on 19 Oct.
